Use your Phone's Internet
Sorry if this is long, but I'll make it as short as possible. If you want to use you phone's internet on your PC or Laptop, it's really easy! Make sure you have the Motorola iDEN drivers installed. This is better done with Boost, because Nextel may charge you for Network Traffic. This may be useful if your default connection is down for some reason. This could be a "back-up" connection! You do NOT have to sign up with Boost's 35-cent a day web access.
All you have to do is:
In Windows XP:
Creating Connection
Make sure you hook your phone in!
1. Go to Control Panel, double click Network Connections.
2. Click Create New Connection
3. Click Next, Next Again, then choose set up my connection manually.
4. Choose Connect using a dial-up modem (although it will be your cell phone)
5. Choose Modem - Motorola iDEN USB Modem, click next.
6. Type something for the connection name (I typed Cell), click next.
7. At the phone number, type S=2#777, click next.
8. Uncheck the bottom box, because you probably want your regular connection to stay the default.
9. Click Next, because no Login info is needed.
Editing Connection
You will need to edit the connection so it won't try to negotiate a login, and a few other optional settings.
1. Go to Control Panel - Network Connections again
2. Right-click on the newly made connection. Click Properties.
3. Click Configure under the "connect using" box.
4. Set Maximum speed to 115200 bps
5. Have only Enable hardware flow control checked. Click OK.
6. Click the "Networking" tab, then click settings.
7. ONLY have "Enable software compression" checked
8. Make sure "Negotiate Multi-link for single-link connections is NOT checked. Click OK, then OK again.
9. Done. |
