Has anyone ever heard of this? i870 question. need help bad.
Ok, I got my i870 from a friend of mine. He had the phone for maybe two months before I got it. It's mint. Well, I had an i275 so I put my sim in the phone and have been using it for about a month. Last week when turning it on, it just went to a white screen that says i870 and that's all it will do. I went to my local service center, and they said they'll switch out the phone for a new one. But they never have them in stock. So they told me to call customer service.

Not thinking when he asked where I got it, I told him. He said Nextel would not cover the phone, and then said if I used my i275 sim card, it would basically fry the phone. I have never heard that switching sim cards would ruin the phone. My wife has an i860 with her i275 sim and nothing is wrong with it. But he claims it will crap out also. I've had my sim in my other phones (i710, i265, and a Blackberry 7520) with no ill effects.

Is this guy full of it or is there some truth to this? If not, since Nextel isnt gonna cover it, can anyone tell me what might be wrong and how to fix it? I need it to check my email and use my bluetooth. Not to mention, I paid $200 for it not long ago and my friend never had trouble with the phone.

I told him a lot of people said they had trouble with that model and he said they were lying. Even though the service tech was the one that told me that.

I thought I had always read that most of the new phones will accept an older sim but not vice versa.

Either way, that shouldnt have destroyed the phone should it?

If someone on here can help me get this thing working tonight, I'll paypal you $10. I've got out of town clients coming in tomorrow and no way to contact them since their info is stored in my phone.

using an old sim card in a new phone will not hurt it at all. just give the phone a test by holding the 1 2 3 buttons when you turn it on to see what the problem is.

I have read on other forums where people were having the same issues. Most said that they have returned them to motorola only to have some keys that were sticking replaced. So make sure none of the keys are sticking. As far as the sim is concerned I have never seen such a thing happen I have been using the sim from my i60c in every other phone I have had since then. You lose some of the newer features but the phone would just say no service or insert sim if it was the problem.

There is no problem with switching sims. Nextel gives out that story just to make people buy new sim cards and they want people to buy phones from them as an upgrade. i went to activate a i90 sim for my old 860 and the dumb b**** told me a customers 860 caught fire from an old sim card. Try holding down the two soft keys and the power button and it should go into flash strap. if it goes into flash strap then it should have no firmware problem after that take the battery out and try turning it on. also is there a trans card in there? if there is try taking it out and turning it on maybe a corrupted file is on it. Also try using a different sim card maybe your wife's in the 870 and see what it does. Have you tried charging the phone while it is off?

Yea I've tried charging while it's off. It will go into flashstrap, which is what led me to believe the screen works and the phone works. But so far I've had no luck. I was talking to OD4Real over on nextpimp and he said it's a codeplug issue. He said he can fix it if I send him the phone and by now it's very tempting. I need this thing back working really bad.
